Rapper DMX, born Earl Simmons, was arrested immediately before he was ready to perform outside Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Friday June 26, 2015. The 44-year old rapper was arrested for allegedly failing to pay approximately $400,000 worth of child support, according to the New York City Sheriff’s Department.
DMX was getting ready to perform at the Master of Ceremony concert. The rap show included other notable artists including Shabba Ranks, Rakim, and Ma$e.
DMX was able to post $25,000 bail for the child support charges, but was taken into custody again over an outstanding warrant for bail jumping in Wetchester County, according to the New York Daily News. The outstanding warrant was issued by the city of White Plains for allegedly being an aggravated unlicensed motor vehicle operator.
This is not the rapper’s first run-in with law enforcement. His other arrests include violating the terms of probation, reckless driving, animal cruelty, and drug possession.
Child support issues are not new for DMX, having been sued multiple for failing to pay child support. He has twelve children with several different women.
DMX cited child support payments as a significant burden in his 2013 Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing. However, a U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Manhattan denied DMX’s claim the burden of paying child support was too great.
TMZ reported last year how a judge ordered DMX to pay $15,000 a month in child support to ex-wife Tashera Simmons. The money would be automatically pulled from his contract with Universal Music Group.
Representatives for DMX have not commented on the issue.
